John McLellan, former editor of The Scotsman, has joined the Scottish Conservatives as the party’s new communications director.

McLellan, who left Johnston Press in April, where he was editor-in-chief of The Scotsman, The Evening News and Scotland on Sunday, after 19 years at the company, will oversee communications strategy, direction and content in his new role.

McLellan is set to join a panel discussion this Thursday evening being organised by The Drum, discussing the impact that the Leveson Inquiry and potential Scottish independence could have on Scotland’s media.
