Production company The Mill has revealed they played an integral role in creating the box-office smash ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’.

With a concept was taking the film back towards the original feel of the Brothers Grimm story, The Mill were asked to help create the films ‘Mirror Man’.

Will Cohen, Mill TV and Film’s managing director/executive producer explains, “The initial brief provided for creating the Mirror Man in SWATH by VFX. Supervisor, Cedric Nicholas-Troyan was asked to have the magic mirror on the wall melt/dissolve off the wall and form into a solid metallic/statue-like character in an elegant way.”

Five to six months of research and development had to take place in order to create the image of the mirror melting off the wall and forming into a solid, metallic statue like character.

From initial tests with different kinds of liquids and materials to computer graphics the final decision was to create a cloth and fluid combination.

‘Mirror Man’ is vital in scenes with The Queen, Charlize Theron, the team at The Mill had to reflect The Queen back onto ‘Mirror Man’ in 2D. The animation of ‘Mirror Man’ was detailed, subtle and experimental because there is no idea how it will look until it is rendered and cut into the scene.

The Mill are thrilled at the end product and very proud to have taken part in such an iconic scene.
