Internet searches for the word ‘England’ have seen a 67% increase overnight following its win against Ukraine in Euro 2012, with searches for results, highlights and kick off times also seeing an increase in searches, Experian Hitwise has found.

The analysis also found that flight searches for Poland and Ukraine are up by 51%, with Ryanair seeing the most searches.

For those not looking to travel to the game, there has been an increase in TV searches, with tournament sponsor Sharp seeing a boost in TV searches of 57%.

James Murray, digital insight manager for Experian Marketing Services, said: “You can judge the mood of the footballing nation just by looking online for signs of optimism. It’s clear from our analysis that the win against Ukraine has seen a flurry of feel-good activity online, with fans’ optimism reflected in the searches they’re making – from tickets to Poland, to offers on new flatscreen TVs.

“If England do well, we’re predicting a huge surge in online activity that could only be upstaged by Team GB’s performance at London 2012. Smart digital marketers will know precisely how to tap into the mood of the nation with the right offer at the right time.”
