Microsoft have been giving advertising and publishing partners at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity a sneak peak at the advertising solutions they are working on currently for Windows 8 apps.

Microsoft Advertising is taking a new approach as to how they develop advertising in Windows 8 by partnering with creative agencies, including AKQA, Big Spaceship, Razorfish, Team Detroit, UM and Y&R, before their formats are finalised – a first for the company.

Jennifer Creegan, general manager of display advertising experiences at Microsoft Advertising, has said, “When developing Windows 8, Microsoft reimagined it with a focus on the consumer experience.

“We are creating opportunities for ads within Windows 8 apps in the same way – by putting people at the center of the experience.”

In working with these agencies early on Microsoft is aiming to create a new standard for what ads within Windows 8 apps can and will be, as well as ensuring that experiences are both engaging for consumers and effective for marketers and publishers.

Stephen Kim, general manager of global creative solutions advertising and online at Microsoft, added, “Our team is focusing on creative agency evangelism to develop compelling brand experiences that incorporate Microsoft Advertising’s portfolio.

“We welcome integration and creativity from across the industry.”
