Publisher DC Thomson is to close its office in Manchester as it plans for its Sunday title The Sunday Post to focus further north of England, with an office being considered in Carlisle instead.

The Drum understands that the company is offering to relocate its staff based in Manchester to the new base nearer the Scottish border as it aims to concentrate on delivering more local news to the north of England and Scotland.

A spokesperson for DC Thomson, told The Drum; “The Sunday Post is continually under review as part of our aim to expand and improve our coverage and increase sales figures for all editions.

“Therefore, we are in constant dialogue with staff members about various options and we are not in a position to discuss specific plans in any specific area.”

At the time of writing it was not known how many members of staff had agreed to relocate to Carlisle under the proposals.
