Disney has to ban junk food advertising across its media portfolio, it has announced.

A part of a campaign to help fight child obesity in America, the media organisation is to withdraw advertising for junk food across TV, radio and online platforms from 2015.

Its rules will see a ban imposed on any cereal that uses 10 grams or more of sugar per serving, or a full meal with over 600 calories.

Drinks that contain high amounts of sugar or sodium will also not be advertised on a Disney channel.

The ban will include Disney TV channels such as Disney XD, Radio Disney and all of its website, as well as the Disney Channel, which does not run advertisements, but sponsorship instead.
