eBay is to update its iPhone fashion app later this month with a new image Swatch tool to allow shoppers to find fashion items on the auction site that match the colour and pattern of images in photographs.

It is hoped the technology will be embraced by shoppers who will be able to snap a friend’s outfit on their smartphone and find corresponding garments on eBay.

Melanie Smallwood, UK Head of Fashion Brands for eBay, said: “The latest eBay Fashion app takes shopping one step further by allowing people to search for designer, branded and vintage merchandise at the moment of inspiration whenever and wherever they are. Whether it is a unique pattern or a colour that is to die for, the eBay Image Swatch will allow people to target their search like never before, truly reflecting their individual style.”

Fashion brands represented on the UK site include French Connection, L.K. Bennett, Dune and House of Fraser which will be showcased in eBay’s Spring/Summer 2012 campaign.
