Piers Wenger named as Channel 4 head of drama
Former Doctor Who executive producer Piers Wenger has been named as Channel 4’s new head of drama.
Wenger, currently senior commissioning executive at Film 4, will head up Channel 4’s drama commissioning team, where he will oversee drama output across all of the broadcaster’s channels, including Channel 4 and E4.
He will also continue as executive producer for Film4, working across selected projects alongside Tessa Ross, controller of film and rama.
Channel 4 controller Jay Hunt said: "Piers is an exceptional creative leader with a brilliant track record for delivering unmissable drama. His passion for distinctive authorship makes him the ideal fit with Channel 4. I can't wait to work with him."
Wenger added: "It's a hugely exciting time to be taking on this role and I can't wait to start work with Jay and the team on developing a new generation of drama for Channel 4.
"I'm also greatly indebted to Tessa Ross and all at Film 4 for the expertise they have shared in the last six months and it's a dream come to true to be able to continue those relationships into my new role."
