The long-term future of daily deals sites may have come into question in recent months but LivingSocial claims its voucher sales have almost doubled compared to the previous year.

The site's bosses say it sold more than 330,000 vouchers in the UK between January and March - almost twice the 167,937 figure recorded for the same period in 2011.

They claim that the site has sold over 1.4m vouchers in the UK since January 2011, offering discounts on products ranging from spa treatments and meals to 3D televisions and fitness classes.

Peter Briffett, managing director of LivingSocial UK and Ireland, said: "Over the last 12 months we have been rapidly expanding to offer membership to more UK consumers, and it is fantastic to see that the popularity of people trying LivingSocial, and discovering more about where they live, shows no signs of slowing down.”

The daily deals site recently announced plans to expand further in the UK by launching into Birmingham and Leeds.

Peter Briffett recently spoke to The Drum about the daily deals industry and developments at LivingSocial.
