Ofcom to investigate Sky News email hacking of 'Canoe Man' John Darwin
Media regulator Ofcom is to investigate the admission by Sky News that it authorised the emails hacking of John Darwin, who faked his own death in a canoe accident.
Sky News defended the decision, claiming that its investigation was in the public interest and proved that Darwin’s wife was aware that he was alive. It subsequently passed on the information to police.
An Ofcom spokesperson said; "Ofcom is investigating the fairness and privacy issues raised by Sky News' statement that it had accessed without prior authorisation private email accounts during the course of its news investigations. We will make the outcome known in due course."
