Tennent’s ‘Could Have Been a Player?’ competition has allowed 256 prize winners to get through to the bootcamp stages at Celtic Park and Ibrox Stadium – with the final taking place on 11 May at Ibrox and 21 May at Celtic Park.

Based on performance at Bootcamp, the management teams have now made their team selections and chosen their squads for the Could Have Been A Player Finals 2012, with 64 getting through.

Andy Goram of Rangers said: “This is my second year being involved in the activity, it’s a fantastic concept and gives these guys one more chance to prove they have what it takes. You get guys of all ages but you can tell that they could play back in the day but maybe the legs don’t move as quickly as they used to. You see the joy on their faces being at the training ground and for those who make it to Ibrox, it is an experience that will never leave you.”

John Hartson of Celtic added: “The two sessions at Lennoxtown were fantastic occasions for the fans. To get a behind the scenes look at the training centre, have lunch in the first team area and to train like the squad for a full day is a great opportunity and these guys took it and made the selection process very difficult.”
