Johnston Press has revealed that it may drop the word “press” from its title in the latest in a series of changes to be implemented by the publisher.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed the possibility following an interview with Johnston’s chief executive Ashley Highfield last week.

In it Highfield confirmed a raft of changes to be implemented, including scrapping the roles of editor in chief at the Scotsman Publications Ltd, the post of managing director at Angus County Press and the position of divisional newspaper sales director.

The group also announced a decision to renounce paywalls in favour of app development.
