Burger King has abruptly terminated a high profile television ad featuring Mary j Blige just days after its premiere – after African American groups accused it of racial stereotyping.

Intended to promote the brands healthier chicken snacks, heralded as the chains biggest menu shake-up since it was founded in 1954, the campaign depicted the musician singing about crispy chicken snack wraps.

The series of “Exciting things are happening at Burger King” ads also included cameos from David Beckham, Jay Leno and Salma Hayek.

Burger King has denied any correlation between the ads disappearance and the complaints, stating that its removal was prompted by licensing difficulties and that it would reappear soon.
