Zipcar has announced the appointment of Andrew Barclay as marketing director, and appoints PR agency Weber Shandwick and media agency Universal McCann to help with UK marketing.

Based in the London head office, Barclay will be responsible for building and implementing strategies to drive acquisition, revenue growth and brand awareness in the UK market for the car sharing network.

Barclay was previously the head of brand, marketing and retail at Best Buy, and has held senior marketing roles at Paddy Power and Moss Bros.

He said: “I’m excited to be part of such an innovative company. In the US Zipcar is a strong, instantly recognisable brand that has become synonymous as the smart alternative to car ownership, and I look forward to leveraging the service benefits and building the brand to normalise car sharing here in the UK.”

Rob Weisberg, global chief marketing officer of Zipcar, said: “Andrew brings with him a wealth of marketing and commercial experience, which makes him well placed to contribute to the expansion of Zipcar’s customer base in the UK.

“As the global car-sharing network, we are committed to our future growth in Europe, and Andrew’s remit will include engaging consumers with the economic, environmental and lifestyle benefits of being a Zipcar member to the UK market through impactful and innovative marketing.”

Weber Shandwick and Universal McCann have been appointed as the company is poised to launch a £1 million spring advertising campaign in and around London.
