A new digital news platform has been launched by ITV, as it rolled out the beta 24 hour news site, optimised for both mobile phones and tablets.

Developed alongside digital agency Made by Many, the site sees ITV place digital at the heart of its news offering, pulling together both national and regional news, featuring a rolling news timeline, and breaking news through other sites, including Twitter.

Michael Jermey, director of News and Current Affairs, commented: “Our digital news service will give people a great new way to follow breaking news wherever they are. It will offer fantastic broadcast quality video and will cover not only the top national and international news of the day but will also provide a strong regional service.”

Julian March, head of digital media for ITV News & Sport, added: “ITV News is a vast 24 hour news gathering machine packed with breaking news content and exclusives from award winning journalists. We are therefore incredibly excited about creating a platform which allows us to begin to unleash the full power of that machine in the digital space. The new site is all about providing real-time news for the digital age and enabling our quality journalism to reach an even wider audience online and on demand.”
