After only one column, calls have been made for solicitor Amar Anwar to quit his new role writing for The Scottish Sun on Sunday.

Anwar replaced Paul McBride QC as a columnist for the new Sunday title, after McBride’s sudden death.

Anwar has previously been highly critical of the newspaper’s publisher News International, leading to another solicitor Mike Daily calling for him to resign from the column after just one week.

According to The Firm magazine, Daily turned to Twitter to criticize Anwar, with his first tweet asking; “What are you playing at writing for The Sun?”

He added: “You need to resign from your Sun/Murdoch column in the interests of justice and human rights. You have just sold the purse to Rupert Murdoch.”

When announcing that he had taken the role, Anwar admitted that he expected criticism following his previous stance against News International.
