Bear Grylls, the animal urine quaffing frontman of the eponymous TV show, has been sacked by the Discovery Channel following a contractual dispute.

Grylls, who has been munching insects on the show since 2006, has seen his contract terminated with immediate effect, including all current productions.

Grylls’ show, known as Born Survivor in the UK, instructs audiences on how to survive in the wild and has been a major hit for the network.

Discovery’s decision though casts Grylls into perhaps his harshest wilderness yet with the reality star left to fend for himself away from his home of the past six years.

A cult following had developed behind the show with celebrities such as Will Ferrell joining the adventurer on expeditions – despite controversy around one episode where he apparently ditched his tent for a motel off camera.
