Facebook has launched a new tool which lets its users create an interest list, which it says will help turn the social media website into your ‘own personalized newspaper’.

The new feature allows users to create or subscribe to feeds to pull together posts or pages which fall into certain categories, for example a fashion feed could include a user’s favourite brand pages on Facebook, as well as fashion magazine and bloggers pages.

The function is similar to that of Twitter lists.

Facebook interest lists will appear in the left hand side of the newsfeed, and can be made public or private.

Eric Faller, a software engineer at Facebook, said: "Lists on Facebook are a great way to organize your friends and focus on the people who matter most. Starting today, you also have interest lists—a whole new way to keep up with stuff you care about and tidy up your experience on Facebook.

"Interest lists can help you turn Facebook into your own personalized newspaper, with special sections—or feeds—for topics that matter to you."
