Cosmopolitan is celebrating its 40th birthday this month by launching a magazine-to-purchase mobile app, which allows readers to immediately locate additional information about certain items featured and instantly buy them.

The ‘Cosmo Shopping Genie’ launched in conjunction with retail partners Debenhams, New Look, Boohoo.com and Clinique. The app takes users directly to the specific product on the retailers’ mobile site, allowing them to buy then and there or add it to a payday ‘wishlist’.

The glossy magazine is also selling its first ever issue from 1972 on a digital platform for the first time, by launching it on Apple newsstand.

Louise Court, editor at Cosmopolitan, said: “We are delighted to be able to recreate the first ever issue of Cosmopolitan for a new audience to celebrate our iconic title’s 40th birthday. The future will be about giving consumers the opportunity to read their favourite magazine across multiple platforms so that they can engage with the magazine brand, wherever they are and however they like and it is an honour to give the first ever issue a digital make-over.”
