Prime Minister David Cameron's iPad app, costing around £20,000, has been given the go ahead by Whitehall officials.

The 'Dashboard' app, being developed by Silva, will give Cameron high security access to government departments, as well as news feeds from the City and major news outlets.

IT experts employed by Downing Street have been beavering away on the app for months, with the final bill likely to be around £20k, a sum denounced by the Taxpayers Alliance as a “waste of money.”

Some of this money could be recouped however if plans to flog a pared down version to the public are realised.
