Sarah Sands has been announced as the acting editor of the London Evening Standard, with effect from 1st April 2012

She replaces Geordie Greig, who has been appointed as editor of the Mail on Sunday.

Evgeny Lebedev, London Evening Standard chairman, said: “Deputy editor Sarah Sands will take up the role of acting editor and The Standard continues in safe hands. I am very grateful to Geordie for all that he has achieved as Editor over the past three years.

“The London Evening Standard has never been as popular or as influential as it is today - as its current position as Newspaper of the Year confirms. For the first time ever it now has more readers than any other quality daily newspaper in Britain. I am delighted that we have such an outstanding editorial team to take the paper through this extraordinary and historic year for London.”
