Gavin Patterson, president of the Advertising Association, has warned that the future growth potential of the £15bn marketing communications sector is being over-looked.

The Association believes that a greater cognisance of the potential for growth could result in as many as 20,000 new jobs in the UK by 2014.

Speaking ahead of the industry's LEAD 2012 summit, Patterson said: “The UK can and should be a magnet for global marketing communications business. All the ingredients are in place: the right companies are already here in numbers; we have the skills; the technology; a thriving creative sector; and fantastic heritage.

“If we give advertising’s infrastructure the same focus as we do skills, taxation, interest rates or transport, we will attract business and drive our global competitiveness.”
