Infographic: 1.6 million tweets about the Oscars sent last week – 45k about The Artist

Research by Webtrends has found that between 22 and 26 February, 1.6m tweets were sent about the Oscars, with 112,155 mentions around the Best Picture category.

The most mentioned film, according to the infographic created with the data, was The Artist, with 45,000 tweets. This was the film which went on to win Best Picture. Jean Dujardin, lead in The Artist, won best actor in a leading role – although George Clooney was the actor who received the most tweets at 15,000 – 5,000 more than Dujardin.

Meryl Streep, who won best actress for her role as Margaret Thatcher, was the most discussed actress on Twitter with 17,000 mentions.

It had been predicted from Twitter that Woody Allen would receive the best director award for Midnight in Paris, but The Artist’s Michel Hazanavicius won this too – despite having 4,400 less comments on Twitter.
