Distraught fans anguished by the absence of former rugby commentator Bill McLaren from matches will soon be able to down their sorrows with a bottle of McLaren branded beer.

The Bill McLaren IAP (4.5%) is described as “floral on the nose, hoppy on the finish with a delicate malty backbone” and has been brewed specifically for the Bill McLaren Foundation at the Black Isle Brewing Company.

Linda Lawson, McLaren’s daughter, said: “We’re hoping that by watching the rugby with a pint of Bill’s, we’ll be able to encourage the next generation of commentators & spectators to feel a connection to Bill.”

Bottles will retail for £2.60 a pop with 30p from each sale wending its way directly to the Bill McLaren Foundation.
