Trinity Mirror insists the Daily Record maintains support for Labour as SNP's Joan McAlpine joins Media Scotland
Joan McAlpine is to join Media Scotland as a columnist in the coming weeks.
McAlpine is currently a columnist for the Scotsman, but will now write a column for The Daily Record under the title ‘An Independent Woman’.
Alan Rennie, editor-in-chief of Media Scotland, said: "We're delighted to have Joan on board. She will give us an alternative voice and of course she knows the Record inside out."
Trinity Mirror told The Drum that this move would not see the newspaper begin to soften its support towards the SNP, telling the Drum that the title remained a Labour supporting newspaper and supported a unified United Kingdon.
