A fresh analysis of Apple’s App Store has found that the popular digital store witnessed the launch of over a quarter of a million apps in the UK last year, roughly 701 every day.

The bulk of these, some 67%, were created for the iPhone with lifestyle apps proving to be the fastest growing category. The remainder were designed with the iPad in mind, with education apps accounting for the bulk of growth.

It was also found that the most apps were launched in December with a total of 28,992 apps going live in the four weeks prior to Christmas.

The figures were compiled by AppZapp, a bargain guide for the sector and madvertise, the European mobile advertising network.
