The BBC is facing fresh embarrassment courtesy of its popular Top Gear programme after a policy to crack down on bad language in its shows failed to have any effect on the motoring show.

A pre-watershed programme broadcast at 8pm last Sunday saw the F-word bleeped out seven times in five minutes - whilst censors failed to accurately bleep out the word s***, which was still clearly audible on the broadcast.

Viewers were also treated to one guest uttering the term b******s whilst the offensive t***** was spray painted across a car in another scene.

In recent years Top Gear has transmogrified from a vehicle review show into a generic entertainment show popular with families.
