Advertising giant WPP is to assemble a dedicated news unit, dubbed ‘Team News’, after winning a £28m advertising contract with Rupert Murdoch’s News International.

The multi-disciplinary unit will comprise the pick of talent from across WPP’s business and is expected to commence work following a pitch process amongst WPP’s ad divisions.

NI’s chief marketing officer, Katie Vanneck-Smith, said that WPP scooped the lucrative work on account of their “long relationship” with NI.

Vanneck-Smith added: "We haven’t finalised the brief yet but we are looking at a closed pitch within WPP group."

Brand Republic speculates that this closed pitch is expected to involve CHI & Partners, Grey London and Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R.
