UK Supreme Court launches Twitter account
The UK Supreme Court has launched its very own Twitter feed – just two months after a decision by Scottish courts to give “full consideration” toward permitting the use of Twitter by those attending court.
@UKSupremecourt is accompanied by a Twitter policy statement which sets out how the court will employ the service to directly engage with the wider public.
This will see the Court tweet such events as the swearing in of Lord Reed as successor to former Justice Lord Rodger.
The Supreme Court states: “While we would welcome feedback from followers and will read all @replies, we will not always be able to reply individually to all the messages we receive via Twitter, because of resource constraints.
“@UKSupremecourt will follow organisations of relevance to it and may follow individuals where appropriate. We will cease to follow accounts we believe are malicious or spam.”
