ITV has announced it plans to delay the introduction of micropayments from its on demand ITV Player catch-up service – scheduled to have been launched this month.

It follows continued deliberations from within the organisation as to how best introduce the funding model, be that ‘webisodes’ of Coronation Street or repeats of past football matches.

repeats of past football matches.

The move is intended to wean ITV off its dependence on advertising revenue and open up its expensive back catalogue to monetisation, both at home and overseas.

An ITV spokesperson said: “We now have a pay mechanism in place, using MGT's Pay Wizard, which will enable us to begin a trial of our consumer propositions. There is nothing further to announce at this time. We will first be conducting closed trials as is standard practice.

“Our wider pay strategy is also progressing well, with deals with subscription platforms LoveFilm and Netflix secured in the last month both contributing to our goal of driving new pay revenue streams.”
