Design By Day has launched a new website for Pluto Music, the recording studio owned by Keith Hopwood of Herman's Hermits.

The Salford agency was commissioned by Sugarcube to design the website and the two companies developed the site together.

The site responds to the user’s behaviour and environment based on screen size, platform and orientation.

Users on smart phones and portrait-oriented mobile devices are presented with a single column layout with prioritised information while those on desktops and larger screens are delivered the full browsing experience, with large imagery and rich media that scales up and down according to browser size.

Design By Day's Angela Roche said: "Responsive design is at the forefront of the industry right now and we were really excited about Pluto being our first responsive site.

"These days you have no way of knowing what size screen or device your visitors will be viewing your site on, so it’s important that modern sites respond to the user, not the other way round. It also gives us more scope as designers to be playful with layout and more imaginative with designs."

Hopwood, who started the studio with fellow Hermit Derek Leckenby in 1968, added: "As most of my music is for film and television it was important for me to showcase it in the best possible way, whatever device it is being viewed upon. The design and large imagery of the studio really gives you a feel for what Pluto Music is all about."
