Google has retaliated to an attack by Rupert Murdoch accusing the search giant of being a “piracy leader” by countering that it fights pirates and counterfeiters “every day”.

The bitter exchange was prompted by Murdoch’s new found penchant for tweeting, a practice which has elevated the media mogul’s musings into a daily news cycle.

The exchange was prompted after Murdoch found himself hankering for Tom Cruise vehicle, Mission Impossible, plugging it into his search bar to see what was available online.

To Murdoch’s disgust many of the proffered links were of the illegal variety.

Murdoch wrote: “Piracy leader is Google who streams movies free, sells [adverts] around them. No wonder pouring millions into lobbying.”
