Comedians have field day as Gary Glitter proves a hit after joining Twitter
Comedians have been given new ammunition online as disgraced pop star Gary Glitter has seemingly joined Twitter and was trending in UK within hours of doing so.
Using the handle @officialglitter, the former pop star’s account description reads: “The official twitter of Gary Glitter. Managed and updated by me. The Leader. Still shining.” and he has already been bombarded with tweets, not least from comedians mocking him.
He already has 16,667 at the time of writing, just a couple of days after setting up the account.
One tweet from Frankie Boyle read: “Hi Gary. Would you say it’s you or the captain of the Concordia that’s fucked more people in international waters?”
This led to the response from Glitter: “I want to put everything behind me, time has passed, now I want to move on with my music. People like you don't help me.”
Boyle then retorted: “Ignore the haters. Rose West is getting a similarly hard time on Mumsnet.”
Meanwhile Peter Serafinowicz tweeted to ask “will your book be released as a PDF file?” and NME has reported that Glitter has tweeted to announce a comeback tour.
