Anthony Longden, managing editor of Newsquest London, has left his role after six years following cutbacks.

HoldtheFrontPage has reported that Longden, who left on Wednesday, will focus on consultancy work.

He told the media site: “There’s no mystery about the state of the economy and the pressure that is putting on local newspapers, and as a senior person in local newspapers I was painfully aware of that.

“I am parting company with Newsquest in good odour and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time there.”
