The BBC is considering introducing a new pay-per-view scheme to allow viewers to watch programmes from its huge TV archive, according to reports.

The Telegraph claims the corporation could effectively introduce a new licence fee system that would grant access to hundreds of hours of old TV shows produced by the BBC.

The BBC's iPlayer service allows viewers to watch a wealth of recent content for free online but only for a limited time.
