Successors to the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 are to be unveiled by Sony and Microsoft at this summer’s E3 show – according to MCV.

The veteran consoles are now five and six years old respectively, prompting both firms to eye up their likely successors.

The timing of the launch would also serve to overshadow market rivals Nintendo who are expected to announce details of its Wii U console at the same event.

In their report MCV said: "Execs aren’t expecting price or launch details for the new Xbox or PlayStation. But their unveiling could be a perfect spoiler to the pre-Christmas launch date and price that will be revealed for Wii U in June."
