App downloads hit record high
App downloads hit a record high of more than a billion per week in December, according to analytics firm Flurry.
Their study found that 1.2bn apps were downloaded in the last week of December alone – buoyed by a spate of seven million Apple and Android activations on Christmas day.
The US accounted for almost half of all these downloads, with some 509m, followed by China with 99m and the UK with 81m.
In a blog post Flurry stated: "Looking forward to 2012, Flurry expects breaking the one billion download barrier per week will become more commonplace.
"While [Apple] iOS and [Google] Android growth continues to amaze, the market is still by all measures relatively nascent."
