Google has completed one of the biggest overhauls of its search screen since its inception, supplanting a grey bar which had hitherto run across the top of the screen with a grey interactive logo.

When the user clicks on or hovers over this icon a range of associated Google services are displayed such as maps, services and images.

A Google spokesperson said: “Constant revision and improvement is part of our overarching philosophy.

"If you compare the original Google home page to today's version, you will see that a makeover every so often can certainly be refreshing."

The new look will be rolled out incrementally to all users in the coming months.
