A new Converse Facebook app, ‘Made by’, allows users to design and sell trainer creations through the social network.

Created by Anomaly and R/GA, the Made By app effectively turns Converse advocates into affiliates. Fans of the brand on Facebook can design up to 6 pairs of trainers; if they sell 5 pairs they will be given the 6th free.

It’s a smart idea, and one that will surely be emulated by other brands looking to make social commerce work. However, it does rely on fans being passionate about a product, evidently the case with Converse as proved by previous initiatives such as ‘Which Shoe Are You’.

Only UK and US Converse fans will be able to design and sell shoes initially but if successful the Made By app will be expanded to include users in other countries too.

Anyone interested in participating can register their interest on the Converse Facebook page.
