BBC’s Panorama will tonight reveal the findings of an investigation into the ‘Big Four’ UK supermarkets, which concludes that not all of their bargains are quite what they seem.

Panorama: The Truth About Supermarket Price Wars will highlight the findings of the investigation into deals offered by Asda, Tesco, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s and the pricing tactics used that, in some cases, don’t offer the expected cost saving.

The offers covered include Wow deals, where the programme claims that 11 of the items checked had been the same price as its apparently sale price for at least six months.

According to the BBC, when contacted about these, Asda said that they should not have been advertised as Wow, and subsequently removed them from its website.

Also highlighted are Multi-Buy deals, new low price deals and varying pack sizes and prices.

Panorama: The Truth About Supermarket Price Wars will be broadcast on BBC One, at 8.30pm on 5 December.
