Video sharing site YouTube is sporting a fresh pair of clothes from today after its owners, Google, rolled out a long awaited redesign of the popular site.

Some users have been trialling the new look over the past 10 days but now everyone can give the revamped site a whirl, including showcasing the platforms millions of ‘channels’.

Positioning the digital service as a sort of cable TV system on steroids YouTube is championing the fact that it can command more content, by several orders of magnitude, than any of its established rivals.

This has been accentuated with a list of your top 10 favourite channels listed at the top left of the page .

Margaret Stewart, director of User Experience at YouTube, said: “The future of the YouTube experience has channels at the center of it. It’s a container for all the world’s video, and it needs to be the best home for that.”

To mark the relaunch YouTube’s logo has itself been given a makeover, with colours tickled and a soft grey background added to all videos.
