BBC faces all male Sports award shortlist backlash
The BBC has become embroiled in a sexism row after the broadcaster unveiled an all-male shortlist for its Sports Personality of the Year shortlist.
Sportswomen lined up to dismiss the list, which includes perennial Wimbledon also ran Andy Murray and boxer Amir Khan, who hasn’t had a great year, as “disgraceful”.
Notable by their absence from the list are world champion swimmers Keri-Anne Payne and Rebecca Adlington and world champion triathlete Chrissie Wellington who all netted medals this year.
Broadcaster Gaby Logan took to Twitter to add her voice to the chorus of disapproval, noting: ” we moan about women having no positive role models but they are there in sport – we need to promote them.”
