Gok Wan and Specsavers are to host the first celebrity hangout at Google’s HQ offices in Central London tomorrow, staged in partnership with media agency MEC.

The stylist will raise awareness of the Spectacle Wearer of the Year awards, and reinforce the association between Gok Wan and Specsavers.

Tim Langlois, Specsavers digital marketing manager, said: “Gok Wan has been fronting the Spectacle Wearer of the Year awards since 2006, when he was named Best Newcomer. The awards have been running for 15 years now and we feel that the Google+ hangout is an amazing opportunity to take blogger and public engagement to a new, dynamic level.”

Fans are being offered the chance to take part by adding Gok to their celebrity circle on Google+, with everyone following him being put into a draw to take part. The event will also be streamed on Specsavers’ YouTube channel.

Hangouts are one of the main features in Google’s social network, allowing people to run a group video chat that can host up to ten different users at one time. MEC will be responsible for identifying and inviting key online fashion bloggers to the event.

Richard Fitzgerald, social media manager at MEC, said: “This is quite an iconic moment for us. To be part of a UK media first in creating brand awareness for Google+ and Specsavers is something we are incredibly proud of. With the brand pages launch imminent from Google, we are delighted to be at the forefront of the next generation of social engagement.”
