Microsoft has appointed Simon Davies as sales director for its new UK Advertising and Online division.

Davies, who has previously held senior sales positions at The Mail on Sunday, The Evening Standard and The Independent, will be responsible for the overall performance of display sales in the division.

He said: "The team and I will be focusing on our service to clients and agencies while offering targeted solutions to their marketing needs. In these days of data overload we need to make it simple to link the many opportunities Microsoft can offer across its extensive product portfolio."

Davies starts today in Microsoft's London office, and will report to Andy Hart, the general manager of Microsoft Advertising & Online UK.

The latest appointment follows the arrival of Haidi Jenkin as business manager from Microsoft's corporate headquarters in Redmond.
