Martin King, online editor of the Independent, has been forced to publish an apology to readers following a botched website upgrade which has seen readers being presented with incomplete articles and dead links.

Admitting that the problems amounted to far more than mere “teething problems”, King remains adamant that the new look portal represents “as rapid an evolution as we can manage”.

King wrote: “We have had far more than just teething problems since our updated site was launched yesterday and issues remain. Huge efforts continue in an attempt to speed pages and prevent the delivery of incomplete articles. We thank our users for bearing with us and apologise profusely.”

Intended to provide a better user experience for users the website offers greater flexibility in image and video usage and greater social media connectivity.
