Netflix, the world's leading movie subscription service, is moving into Britain and Ireland in early 2012. They will not offer flms by mail,as they do in the US, but instead unlimited TV shows and movies streaming over the Internet to TVs and computers.

Customers will be charged one low monthly subscription price, not yet announced . In the US it's $7.99 a month, around £5.

From Day One , Netflix members from the UK and Ireland will be able to instantly watch a wide array of TV shows and movies right on their TVs via a range of consumer electronics devices capable of streaming from Netflix, as well as on PCs, Macs and mobile tablets and phones.

Netflix has been streaming to U.S. members since 2007, adding Canada in 2010 and 43 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean last month.

People interested in becoming members of Netflix in the UK or Ireland can go to www.netflix.com to sign up to receive an email alert letting them know details of the launch.

Netflix has 25 million members in the United States, Canada and Latin America. In Britain and Ireland, they will be competing with LoveFilm, which has more than 1.6 million subscribers in the UK and Europe and also YouTube and Sony, both of which recently announced their own services.

Netflix shares fell from nearly $300 in early July to $112 last week after a series of blunders. First the company raised prices, then said it was splitting in two (mail and streaming) then, after protests, changed its mind on the split but kept the higher prices.
