Kyle Evans has been appointed as programme controller for Read Radio North West, while Dave Shearer, programme director has left the company after his role was made redundant alongside Martyn Healy, MD of the north east operation.

The appointment of Evans sees him take on day-to-day responsibilities for the programming department, working closely with Real Radio brand programme director Mark Matthews at the Salford headquarters.

Matthews will take on overall responsibility for the broadcasting of the station, alongside the brand programme director duties following Shearer’s departure.

John Simmons, group programme director for GMG Radio, said: “Kyle has a great track record. He’s a great addition to the senior programming structure and together with Mark, I am sure will strive to continue the production of award winning content, that is Dave’s legacy to the station. We thank Dave for his contribution over the last three years and wish him every success in his next venture.”

Martyn Healy, managing director in the North East has also left the business, with group director of sales Alison Forshaw taking over management of the Newcastle studio.

Andy Carter, group managing director for GMG Radio, said: “There is huge potential for growth for both Real Radio and Smooth Radio in the north east and I would like to thank Martyn for his professionalism and commitment over the last 18 months. He has worked hard to establish a consolidated team, focused on delivering a creative and engaged commercially successful radio business.”
