The Museum of London has collaborated with Nokia to introduce NFC technology into both its London venues, in a bid to improve the visitor experience.

Visitors with smartphones are now able to tap their devices on sensor pads dotted around the museums to access vouchers for its shops and cafés, book tickets for future exhibitions, receive more information about exhibits, join the Museum’s Friends scheme and buy prints.

Visitors can also check-in using Facebook, FourSquare and Twitter, and are able to ‘like’ and ‘follow’ the museum, amplifying its reach through social media channels. Those with Nokia smartphones can download ‘Soundtrack to London’, a historical musical trivia app.

The Museum of London is one of the first public organisations in the UK to introduce NFC technology – although others are likely to follow.
