Sky News and The Daily Mail have been left a little red faced last night, when they both misreported that Amanda Knox has lost her appeal to be cleared of the killing of Meredith Kercher in Perugia last night.

Knox, who had already served four years in prison, having been found guilty of the murder, alongside ex boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito in 2007, was cleared on appeal, although Sky News had to quickly reverse its onscreen report, having announced that she had failed in her appeal.

Meanwhile, The Mail Online also reported that Knox had failed in her appeal, quickly running the headling 'Guilty: Amanda Knox looks stunned as appeal against murder conviction is rejected'. This version of the story has now been removed and corrected however.

The full page can be seen here however.

The ruling was read in Italian, and initially upheld a conviction against Knox for defamation against Patrick Lumumba, who she accused of killing Kercher, clearly leading to both media platforms assuming that the whole appeal had failed.

The pair have now been released from jail.
