The dramatic acquittal of Amanda Knox and her release (she is flying home to Seattle today) has produced strong feelings on both sides of the Atlantic.

CNN's Piers Morgan tweeted during the Amanda Knox appeal and, after her acquittal and release, said, "I wonder how this verdict would have gone down in the United States if Amanda Knox was British and Meredith Kercher an American."

Before the verdict, Piers said "Judging by Twitter, most Americans think Amanda Knox is innocent, most Brits think she's guilty. "

Whatever the verdict later, he said, the "celebrification" of Amanda Knox was an ongoing distress to the Meredith Kercher family, he said. "What do I think? Honestly, I can't decide if Amanda Knox is guilty of murdering MeredithKercher or not. My sympathies to both families." Morgan said he knew Meredith Kercher's dad John. " He used to file foreign reports for the Daily Mirror. Good man, good journalist, broken father". Today the speculation in the US was: who would get the first interview with Amanda?
